From January 2006 I will become the latest in a long line of DG (dumb gaijin) to undertake the odyssey that is teaching English in the Land of the Rising Sun. I know I'll be living in Kyoto, but what happens next is anyone's guess. I'll be chronicling every step of the way. If you've ever wondered what life is like for your average chain school gaijin, you will find out as I do. If you're planning on joining the DG club you'll be needing a tour guide... I guess that's me.

Bent Penny Records, based in Toronto, Ontario, sprung to life in January 2004. Dan Black and Julian Taylor of the long time Toronto rock band Staggered Crossing decided to form an independent record label along with long time friends Derek Alldritt and Mike Unwin. the goal, to create a new avenue for Canadian and International artists to 'get the music out'. With over twenty years of combined experience in the music industry touring, promoting, marketing, and performing across Canada, Black and Taylor decided it was time to take the next natural step. Together they are putting their expertise to work and are looking to make a positive contribution to the music industry by representing new up and coming, fresh and hip musical acts with good vibes, grit and soul. Have worked with a variety of different groups, mostly at grass-roots rather than in commercial environments. Most recently, see activities detailed at the circlecommunity website for work with a group of eco-activist friends recording artistic performances presented during the Sunrise Festival in Somerset 2006 & 07. During 2008 I have 'returned' to my own roots to work again with the creative group detailed on the website for Theatro Technis. With the advent of a renewed effort to 'solve' the Cyprus problem, my energies are currently devoted fully to that, rather than any other activity. Video material detailed on this profile will inevitably reflect that current reality during this phase. This project hopes to use the SpinXpress method to devise a collaborative way of taking the preparation and presentation of video material a step further, so do keep an eye on this space, for forthcoming uploads during the winter of 2008/9. Un Restó qui mise sur l’Art dans la ville “Porteña”. A l’écart des circuits fréquentés des galeries d’art, existe un espace qui propose et associe ses plats traditionnels aux expositions de peintres émergents et confirmés, parvenant à être un espace culturel reconnu dans cette zone. Hipólito Restó & Arte vit le jour en tant que petit Restó / Café. Son nom rend un humble hommage à Don Hipólito Yrigoyen qui fut l’un des Présidents les plus respectés de la République Argentine, lequel vécut les derniers jours de sa vie comme locataire en ce lieu devenu aujourd’hui le nôtre. Tout a commencé par la simple invitation de quelques peintres à exposer au mois de septembre 2005, pour en arriver à la diffusion et l’insertion de ces œuvres dans le marché national et international. Aujourd’hui en sa vingt huitième exposition, ce sont les artistes qui les contactent pour prendre part à de futurs événements. Hipólito Restó & Art ne prétend pas être une galerie mais un espace alternatif de diffusion et d’exposition où le public ne se sent pas obligé d’observer. L’art est là, faisant partie intégrante de son quotidien. Au cours de sa dernière exposition de l’année 2007, on peut relever la présence de Stella Sidi, citoyenne argentine née en Bulgarie, professeur à l’Ecole des Beaux Arts, Anneau de l’Art en tant que communicatrice culturelle. Prix de la Galerie Expression 2006 pour sa trajectoire artistique, chroniqueuse en arts plastiques de puis 1995, elle dirige et produit depuis 1999, à la Radio Culture FM 97.9, son propre programme dédié aux arts visuels. Soutenue par le Secrétariat à la Culture du Gouvernement de la ville de Buenos Aires, ce programme fut nominé dans le premier Phare d’Or 2001 / 2004. Elle collabore avec la revue “RAMONA” et à www.arteamundo.com, commentant des expositions d’art argentin. Elle participe aussi à un stand à ArteBA y Expo-Trastienda depuis 2002 dans un programme d’un grand rayonnement dédié aux arts visuels. On peut donc dire que ce nouvel espace, en un lieu généralement régi par les intérêts et le stress, a su atteindre ses objectifs, à savoir que l’art fasse partie du quotidien et soit apprécié en tant que tel. Il est présent, il n’est donc pas nécessaire d’aller à sa rencontre. L’artiste français NEST, appuyé par l’Ambassade de France en Argentine ainsi que d’autres artistes argentins remarquables comme Orlando Argañaraz, Enrique Alvarez Aldana, José Cukier y Stella Mezzadri, feront partie du calendrier de cet espace situé dans la ville de Buenos Aires, misant de nouveau sur sa déjà classique devise “rapprocher l’art de la vie quotidienne”.
